Irving What is Health Insurance

Protecting our loved ones from financial distress as a result of sickness

Those of us who have been faced with a major accident or illness know how critical a health insurance policy can be. Texas health insurance will ensure that each of us and our loved ones have quick access to doctors and hospitals when the need arises. It also protects your family from a catastrophic loss if and when a major health issue comes to fruition.

With all the Texas health insurance policies in the marketplace, how do you know which one will best fit your needs? Selected Benefits is here to help you navigate through the maze of choices and make sure everything along the way is taken care of with professionalism. We primarily offer Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans from most of the major health insurance carriers for our Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth and Dallas health insurance clients.

How much doesour service cost? Nothing! If you purchase a Houston health insurance policy from Selected Benefits (Member of the Better Business Bureau Greater Houston), you'll pay exactly the same price for the same health insurance policy as all Texas health insurance premiums are filed with TDI (the Texas Department of Insurance). All services to assist in purchasing a health plan offered by Selected Benefits are provided to you free of charge. We represent most major health insurance carriers in Texas including Aetna, United Health, Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Assurant and CIGNA. We'll be happy to review your current situation (based on current and past medications, medical history, etc.) and recommend the right Texas health insurance policy for your needs.

Our most popular plan is a PPO and we should really explain exactly what a PPO is. A PPO (short for Preferred Provider Organization) is a managed healthcare system very popular throughout our country. Similar to an HMO or Health Maintenance Organization, PPOs provide a high degree of medical care, along with a diverse choice of medical doctors and hospitals (called providers). In fact, a PPO is actually a large collection of hospitals, doctors, laboratories, etc that band together (the PPO), to provide your medical care at a significantly lower rate to the PPO members. By giving large discounts to the PPO members through a Texas health insurance carrier, the insurance carriers are able to persuade us to join them by offering significant financial incentives. These incentives generally include significant discounts for medical care performed by in-network doctors and hospitals and lower co pays and deductibles.

PPO members normally pay for medical services when rendered and any reimbursement comes at a later time at a certain percentage of the expense as outlined in their Texas health insurance policy. The exact percentage of reimbursement depends on the health insurance policy, a previously contracted rate and whether the provider is within the PPO directory. PPO members may see any provider they wish, and are never required to choose a primary care physician (referred to as a PCP), and do not require pre-authorization from that primary care physician before the member seeks medical treatment for any health issue. PPO members must choose doctors within the PPO system in order to receive a higher level of reimbursement and lower co pays. Medical care costs are expensive and becoming more expensive each day. Who will pay your medical bills if you have an accident or a major medical issue? You purchase Texas health insurance for the reason you purchase other kinds of insurance - to protect your and your family from serious financial loss. With Texas health insurance, you can sleep at night knowing you and your family is protected.
